Classes are held from 9:45 am to 10:45 for grades 1st through Confirmation.
Children that are 3/4 Pre-S, 4/5 Pre-K, and Kindergarten age will follow a little different program this year. We would like them to get a combination of church and a bible lesson that is age appropriate. We will have them go to church with their parents and then right before the 1st reading begins, we will call them to the front of the church to join their teachers and go to the back to have their lesson. They will remain back there until the gifts are brought up. Then, they will come up front as a group and give the gifts to Father Kirk and then return to be seated with their parents for the remainder of the class.
At the Church of the Nativity, we believe that faith formation is a life long activity and connection to God. We begin providing formal religious education for our 3 year old children and continue through the adult years.
Registration for the 2009/2010 will continue throughout the year. We are always accepting registrations and will not turn anyone away. Our Confirmation is set up for 8th grade, however, it includes children coming from other parishes so the children are usually grades 8-11th in this classroom. The Confirmation course is actually a four-part/semester class with the first two semesters being in 7th grade; so it is important to attend classes not just during the Confirmation year.
This year, we will also be starting a Teen Program. The Teen Program is continued classes for all teenagers who have already had their Confirmation. After the 5 pm Mass at at approximately 6:15 pm, Greg Walton will be heading up this program. His email address is greg@gregwalton.com or he can be reached at 931.489.9202. Registrations can be picked up in the back of the church (this is the same form used for the younger grades).
To cover the cost of books and supplies, our fees for the program will be $30 per child enrolled in the Religious Education programs. If you need to make payment arrangements, please contact Jennifer Salmon, and we can work something out for you. Classes will begin this year on Sunday, August 23, 2009 with the last class being on Sunday, May 16, 2010. Forms can be found in the back of the church on the religious education table.
Children will be placed in classes based on their age as of September 30, 2009. The Nursery is available during the 8:30 am and 11:00 masses for those children 6 months to 3 years old. Children must be three years old by September 3, 2009 before they can be enrolled in the religious education program. In addition, they must be toilet-trained in order to participate in this program. We ask that you make a monetary donation to help cover the cost of the upkeep of the nursery. We can also use donations of Lysol wipes, Kleenex, hand sanitizer, paper towels, etc. Volunteers are also always needed for the nursery as well. Please contact Jennifer Salmon at 615.302.8180 or salmons4@hotmail.com if you are interested in volunteering for the nursery.
